おじさん 間もなくバイデン アメリカ合衆国大統領就任式の大横領演説が聞けるので楽しみである。当然のことだが英語のみでは聴き取れず、活字起こしで読む。昔は辞書を引きながらであったが、最近はグーグル翻訳してくれるので よくズルしている。
就任演説が教科書副教材として利用され、おじさんも中学生の頃は授業で使われた。大統領演説はやさしい表現で分かり易く 品よく綴られているので、英語を覚える格好の素材となる。あれから５０年以上経過したが・・・まだフレーズが記憶の片隅にある。
鉄は熱いうちに打て！が原則と思うが、ネタを厳選して打たれると記憶に刻まれる。中途半端な生き方をしているおじさんでも解かる。
初春 寒風が止み雲間からの日差し まずはうららかな光に包まれたい。では散歩に！
リンカーン
リンカーンは ゲティスバーグ演説 (1863年)が有名である。
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that the nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate – we can not consecrate – we can not hallow – this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion – that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain – that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
特に最後のフレーズである。

「人民の人民による人民のための政治を地上から決してなくさせない」とのフレーズ 歴史の教科書でも一応は目にしているかと思う。記憶しているか否かは別物としてである。
おじさん歴代大統領の演説を中学以来、見て来たが簡潔明瞭なのはこの演説と思っている。オバマ大統領の演説も良いが長すぎる。

だからこそ、米国民の同胞の皆さん、あなたの国があなたのために何ができるかを問わないでほしい。 あなたがあなたの国のために何ができるかを問うてほしい。

世界の市民同胞の皆さん、米国があなたのために何をするかを問うのではなく、われわれが人類の自由 のために、一緒に何ができるかを問うてほしい。
今の日本に必要かと思われる改新 ケネディの唱えたニューフロンティアを考えると、基本精神はどこに置くべきかの参考になるかとも思う。その後は ケネディ暗殺事件を初の衛星中継ライブで見るなど、宇宙開発技術・技術革新の流れは止まらない。そして彼の娘キャロラインが駐日大使になる風景を見てきた。まあ良くぞここ迄 生き残ったと思う。同級生で彼岸の彼方に行ったのも、５人ほどかな。それに危なそうなのもいれば 行方不明もいる。
生きてればいろいろあり それなりに苦しいが 楽しい。また人生楽しまず 何が楽しい。型に嵌めるな 隣を見るな・・・生き貫くには「技術・眼力・心 そして体力」がないといけない。先日孫の引いた「おみくじ」中吉なれど良きアドバイスと思い添付する。
